Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), INA and the École Méliès are joining forces to establish a career and qualification campus on the major image and audiovisual production site in Bry-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne). An opportunity to enhance training in the sector.
The educational field puts on a show in Bry-sur-Marne. Following the major renovation works carried out in the Bry film studios last November, the image and audiovisual hub of Eastern Paris has been continuously expanding. By the end of the year, it will host a Career and Qualification Campus named “Image Artisans”.
Currently under construction, this campus is coordinated by Université Paris-Est Créteil, in partnership with:
- the École Méliès (Orly)
- the INA campus
- and Université Paris 8
This initiative is another key building block in the effort to turn Bry-sur-Marne’s image hub into a major European player in cinema and audiovisual.
A campus under construction
On the Bry-sur-Marne lot, about fifteen kilometres from Paris, training opportunities are steadily developing. The École Méliès, founded 25 years ago, will move there at the start of the next academic year.
Between 15 and 20 students are expected to enrol in the school’s “Cinema and New Technologies” Master’s degree, studying just a few steps away from the renowned Studios de Bry.
“Our students will be at the core of the filming sets used by big productions such as HBO and Netflix. It is a great opportunity for them to gain experience in the professional world.” – Franck Petitta, Founder and General Director of the École Méliès
Master’s degrees labelled “Grande Fabrique de l’Image”
At the same time, the school has created several Master’s degree programmes in partnership with UPEC and INA. All three institutions have been labelled “La Grande Fabrique de l’Image” as part of the France 2030 investment plan.
These partnerships are leading to new discussions on how to design curricula that meet the needs of the industry. “Productions such as Netflix need people to write and shoot episodes for their series,” explains Amilcar Bernardino.
Creating a production ecosystem
An area of 11,000 m² will be made available to the École Méliès, as well as to other schools, start-ups and companies in the sector.
“Our goal is to create a production, shooting and training ecosystem close to the Studios de Bry,” says Jean-Marc Boero.
Since the visit of Minister of Culture Rachida Dati on 3 February, which shone a spotlight on the site, several schools have already contacted INA to join the image and audiovisual hub.
