BASTIEN CHAUVET

VISUAL EFFECTS SUPERVISOR – CLASS OF 2005

Graduated in 2005 from École Méliès, in the Animated Image Artisan course, Bastien Chauvet was hired at EST by Christian Guillon and worked with him, notably on the set of Asterix 3.

He then alternated between EST, Mikros VFX, and Def(2)Shoot, where Franck Malmin gave him his first opportunity as a supervisor.

In 2008, he co-founded La Cour des Miracles with Art Director Looky. Together, they developed methods for 3D animation that stay as close as possible to 2D concepts.

From then on, he alternated between animation projects (Switez, Moustique, Cigale et Cambriole, Sherlock Gnomes…) and VFX projects (Valerian, L’Ascension, Tycoon).

During these years, he collaborated with Jacques Perrin, Raoul Peck, Luc Besson, John Stevenson, and Louis Leterrier.

He later worked for Wētā FX on Rampage and Mortal Engines. Back in France, he took on the role of Technical and Visual Director at Dargaud Media, which he left in August 2020.

“This school helped turn the slacker that I was into the supervisor I am today. I’m so lucky to have walked its halls as a student, and so proud to return as a teacher. It has been a true place of transmission for me. It is a place where I met people who were more like mentors than teachers; people who educated me, and introduced me to the world of visual effects.”
