THE DEATH’S FINGER
École Méliès – Animated Image Artisan – Class of 2020
Hadja’s encounter with a cursed creature leads the elderly Malagasy man to change his view of the world.
Transformed by this encounter, Hadja decides to break the superstitions of his village. In front of the gathered villagers, he protects the animal from being killed and releases it into a reborn forest, a symbol of a new balance between humans and nature.

Translation of the end credits’ lyrics:
We share this world, where humans and animals coexist with all that grows.
Soft, furry, spiky, beautiful, or ugly,
They all color the banks and adorn the valleys.
Oh, look! The forest is destroyed, razed!
The lemur has jumped to the other side.
A harbinger of death, we believe, and immediately it’s killed.
Aye-aye, Aye-aye, Aye-aye
It just asks for our help;
It knocks at our door;
It clings to its life, like we cling to ours:
For we share the same destiny.
