The École Méliès unveils its 2024 students’ films and video games

The past week, the École Méliès presented its 2024 students’ projects. It wasn’t exactly a judge panel: after having discovered the students’ works, the invited professionals do not grade them but rather give assessments. Several film studios, as well as long-term partners, made the trip. 3DVF was there.
This year group unveiled many 2D or stylised 3D short films and two video games, with various artistic influences (such as Studio La Cachette).
Just like every year, each group comes forward and introduces their projects one by one with a touch of humour and some accessories: the day almost feels like a performance, which is far from being unpleasant!
Here is a glimpse of the games and movies that we discovered, and will soon be available online:
Underground Invaders: In the tunnels of a Parisian subway, three people will make a terrifying discovery.
This film dares to explore the horror genre, too uncommonly explored in film schools, and takes a lead towards body horror and gore. Divisive and uncompromising: visually mind-blowing! Without a doubt our favourite project out of the entire school year.
Directed by: Shera Courtalhac, Victor Lesaffre, Dana Guyot, Meggie Bernier, Maëlle Métaireau, Inès Dolivet, Inès Molinier
Des Pressions Atmosphériques: A very beautiful 2D animation short film depicting the story of two children as it starts raining. Poetical, intimate, oneiric, with a very pretty animation related to water.
Directed by: Max Banse, Julie Blanc, Alvaro Deolio, Elena Forlini, Estelle Jourdan, Gabriel Riera, Lila Trouvé.
Ma Doi: A 2D short film that takes us on the journey of a Vietnamese child living between local traditions, pranks, and a new friendship. Highly detailed art direction and impressive animation work! A beautifully directed film!
Directed by: Clara Grindatto, Lisa Guilhen, Ludivine Bidoire, Clémence Goin, Lisa Gazagne, Manon Etienne, Leilani Meylan, Tuong-Vy Nguyen.
