Seven 2D animated short films produced in three months: this was the brief given to the 2nd year Animation Filmmaking students at École Méliès, as part of an educational partnership with the Cinémathèque française. A demanding challenge and an inspiring environment that gave rise to seven original works.
The Animation Filmmaking programme at École Méliès trains students in all aspects of 2D and 3D cinema animation, from character design to directing, via storyboarding and sound design. The partnership with the Cinémathèque française is part of this professional training approach: students produce a complete film to the same standard as a real commission.
Every one of the seven films was entirely designed and produced within the school, with no outsourcing. The class of 2025/26 managed the entire production pipeline, from writing the screenplay through to the final mix, including character creation, frame-by-frame animation and visual effects. These seven short films bear witness to already distinctive artistic visions and a remarkable level of technical skill for second-year students.
